Case Studies > Fort Edward, NY: U.S. Highway Intersection

Fort Edward 3d map

Similar to the case study in Colonie, NY, the Fort Edward site was included by NYSDOT in the GPR demonstration project. Once again, UIT and Spectra Environmental Group (www.spectraenv.com) conducted both the field survey and utility identification and mapping efforts. The site lies at the intersection of U. S. Highway 4 and Moon Street in Fort Edward, New York.

A total of 14 survey paths were needed to cover the full width of both intersecting streets and to provide a secondary cross-sectional reference of the main roadway. Once again, sensor paths were spaced at 4 in intervals within the 5.12 ft wide array. Some paths were mapped on U. S. Highway 4 and others along Moon Street and in the adjacent parking lot. Analysis and interpretation of the data allowed subsurface features and utilities to be imaged identified and mapped. The delivered product included CAD drawings showing plan, profile, and 3D perspective images of the intersection. NYSDOT independently verified and confirmed the accuracy of the interpretations and maps.
